Looking to speed up your social media content creation? This blog will show you how to use hashtag holidays in your social media marketing!
No business is complete without a social media presence these days, but for most business owners and entrepreneurs, content creation can end up taking up hours and hours of valuable time if you don’t have a clear plan going into it. Time that could have gone to other parts of the business where you’re more needed.
There are a few different ways to get around this. One is to outsource your content creation to a social media manager, virtual assistant or agency like C3 Social.
But if you want to keep things in-house or just want to have a clear plan for your hire, a way to get consistent ideas for your social media content is by learning how to create social media content pillars so you have guidelines on what to create content about.
And one easy content pillar every business should include are all about hashtag holidays!
What Are Hashtag Holidays?
There are thousands of special celebrations, days and holidays that are either nationally or globally recognized and celebrated. And on social media, they all have their own hashtag, so we call them hashtag holidays!

Some, like Christmas or Valentine’s Day are easy and widely known. But did you know that there’s a National Margarita Day? We can guarantee you that there are a few so-called hashtag holidays you can use every month that fit with your business.
What’s the Benefit of Using Hashtag Holidays?
You’ll need to be selective and pick the ones that are relevant of course, because you don’t want to shout out random days that have nothing to do with your business. Using irrelevant ones or overdoing it can make your account less interesting.
But incorporating fun topical holidays is a great way to be current and it’ll help get topic ideas for at least a few posts every month without too much effort! If you can sprinkle in a few posts here and there, it’s a great way to beef up your content creation without too much effort!

How many you’ll want to incorporate depends on how often you post. If you only post twice a week, we recommend keeping the hashtag holidays to 2-3 at a maximum every month. But if you’re posting every day, it’s fine to have one or two hashtag holidays per week – as long as they are relevant!
Depending on the day you’re featuring, you can make the post fun or relate it to your business in an interesting way. Or, if it’s a more serious occasion, keep it respectful.
And keep in mind, you don’t have to post for every holiday. If the holiday is in no way relevant to your business and you’re not sure what to say about it, sometimes it’s better and more respectful to skip it.
How We Use Hashtag Holidays for Our Clients
Let’s look at some examples so you understand what we’re talking about!
Our client Jennifer Borget created Movie Night Journal, a journal where she helps families organize the perfect family movie night with movie suggestions throughout the year, and ideas for activities, snacks and more. Her account is all about movies, so that’s what we love to play into for her!
For the International Day of the Girl, we picked six empowering movies about girls or women we think all young girls should see. This was a great way to connect movies and a hashtag holiday, and it works for lots of different hashtag holidays ranging from serious to funny ones!
For our client Big Blue & You, a non-profit that raises awareness about ocean conservation amongst youth, we do hashtag holidays all the time as well! These can range from special animal days like World Penguin Day, to environmental days like Earth Day or World Water Day. Or even fun ones like National Trivia Day below that we tied into ocean conservation! But, that’s not all! We also look if there are any other hashtag holidays we can tie into their content.
And in this case, we were able to highlight the book that founder Danni Washington wrote to celebrate the hashtag holiday World Book Day! It was a great moment to encourage people to check out her book and acknowledge the hashtag holiday. This is a great example of how you can use something seemingly unrelated but still tie it into your client’s content. It shouldn’t be too much of a stretch, but it’s definitely encouraged to get creative and find fun angles, your followers will appreciate it!
