Tiffany Paige of Green With Tiffany interviews Chelsea McFarland of www.HoneyLove.org. A 501c3 non-profit based out of Los Angeles, They are all about educating and inspiring urban bee-keepers. Honey Love is in the process of legalizing urban beekeeping and educating the masses of why it is important. Los Angeles is one of the last major cities in the world that hasn’t legalized bee keeping.
It is a grassroots effort with 7 (now 11) community councils saying YES, including councilman Bill Rosendahl who runs the district on the Westside.

Chelsea will tell us the difference between bees and wasps and the benefit of bees. Bees are better at pollinating because they’re fuzzy. Honey-bees are not aggressive and vegetarian. 80% of the world’s plants are pollinated by bees, including at least 90 different food crops. They are a benefit to society.
Did you know most bees are girls? The male bees are called drones.

City bees are the healthiest stock of bees left on the planet. Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD as it’s known, is that 1/3 of our bee colonies have died in the last 3 years. Much of it is the way we do our farming with monocultures, pesticides and all of that out in the farmland, but our city bees don’t have that.

There is a petition on their website at www.honeylove.org with a link through www.change.org to legalize urban beekeeping. They would love if you would click on it. There you can find more valuable information, ie.

Remember that walking bees are the grandma bees, so bee ☺ nice to your senior citizen bees.
